Design

The Envirocycle Mini Composter is Tan and is made out of recycled material called “post consumer and post industrial recycled plastic” That is fancy-talk for recycled stuff.. Additionally, it is BPA free, which means you will not be poisoning your yard and garden with carcinogenic runoff. The thing that I liked most about this bin is that it is really sturdy and well built. There aren’t any metal parts so there isn’t anything that can rust, get lost or decay.

The Envirocycle Original Composter comes completely pre-assembled, so you can take it out of the box and can start using it immediately! It is small which is a good size that won’t attract any unwanted attention by nosy neighbors who might not like or understand a composting neighbor. I think it looks good too.

There are two components to this composter: the base and the rotating drum. The base holds the drum in place and it also collects the liquid compost tea. Compost tea is the runoff that results from excess moisture in the compost, and it gives a nutrient boost when fed to plants. On top of the base are eight rollers which turn the drum and mix the compost. The rotating drum is removable, and you can use it without the base. This makes it easy to roll wherever you want to add your waste or empty your compost.

How It Works

Composting is very easy to do with this bin. After you add your waste you turn the rotating drum several times and your job is done. The compost remains mixed, which is a necessity for decomposition. Because the bin is self-contained and comes with a sturdy lock, you won’t have to worry as much about animals or pesky flies buzzing around all the time. Additionally, the container does a good job at keeping odors in, so you can easily keep this on a porch or patio without fear of unpleasant aromas.

The height of the Envirocycle is manageable and easily accessible, yet the opening is such that it is difficult for bugs or animals to access. The opening is large enough to fit a shovel or pitchfork through, although you probably won’t need to do so until you are emptying the unit, since the rotating drum mixes the compost on its own.

If you spin the drum at least 3 times per week and regularly add both green and brown organic matter, you should see nutrient-rich compost in 4 to 6 weeks.

Cons:

With a 5 star consumer rating, it was honestly difficult to find anything wrong with this composter! If there was any complaint, it was that the latch panel hook is tight and can be difficult to open. You often need both hands to pull it open, which can be an inconvenience if you are holding your scraps for composting.
