My long term goal here is to make one into a bonsai tree (years in the making), and plant one in my back yard.

You can take limbs from the willow and stick them in a tub of water and soon they will have roots. Then just plant them.

    Ken Chiarella…instantly.

I never grew the type of tree you describe, but I have grown others. I find it difficult to get great results without using a rooting or growth hormone on the distal end to encourage growth.I do know that some people do grow cuttings the way you describe, but I usually do not have luck doing it that way. I am just now planting a group of plant cuttings that I used the rroting hormone on, placed them in a dish with wateruntil I saw roots, then removed for planting. I am currently trying to root a forsynthia, a clemantis, and a few roses with this method. Good luck. You can purchase this product at any nursery or large dept store with a garden dept.

Weeping willows are really easy to strike.. Cut off a branch and stick it in the ground…best time winter.

the weeping willow is very high in rooting hormone . you should have an easy time . i’ve heard of useing ‘ willow water ‘ to root other plants . made by just soaking some crunched up willow branches in a bucket of h2o .
